slut march take 2

so since my photo shoot earlier on today, i've been playing with the idea of layering text over the images. However, this isn't just any text, they're confessions from survivors of sexual assault. I think i've just found my project title: Confessions.

Slut march inspired photography project

For my third year and final major project I wanted to do something along the lines of sexual assault, and empowering survivors. After many attempts at different ideas I stumbled upon 'Slut march' an organisation that marches through towns in order to protest against slut shaming. In this day and age if a  woman is sexually assaulted the court makes it out as though it's her fault, due to her skirt being too short of her boobs hanging out. I wanted to create a series of images that embraces the female sexuality whilst helping bring to light a good cause.

My friend Juliette Cule wrote a fantastic article recently about 'reclaim the night' which is another organisation that allows women to walk the streets wearing scantily clad clothing with banners that read "my dress is not a yes" and "consent is sexy".

"as one sign clearly stated - the difference between sex and rape? Consent. Until this very straightforward fact is national consensus, we will continue to unite and reclaim the night."

- Juliette Cule

You can find Juliette's article here: http://belle-jar.com/2012/11/18/feminists-unite-reclaim-the-night/

At the end of the day, why should we as women change how we dress? Rape is a crime, and no matter what a woman is wearing it should never be ok.

Below is a sneak peak of my project so far.. keep a look out for more to come!
